Fight Fascism & Punch Nazis
The collapse of ancient civilizations is rarely the result of a single catastrophe, but rather a cascading failure of interconnected systems. Political instability often serves as the catalyst; when leaders prioritize personal power over infrastructure or fail to manage succession, the central authority weakens, leaving the state vulnerable to internal revolts or external invasions. This fragility is frequently exacerbated by environmental degradation, such as soil exhaustion or prolonged drought, which cripples the food supply. In such weakened states, infectious diseases and pandemics can spread rapidly along trade routes, decimating the labor force and the military. As the population dwindles and the economy halts, the complex social structures that once defined the empire simply can no longer be maintained, leading to a fragmented "dark age."
